George A. Fisher died in 1929, age 47 from influenza. His hardware store was in a building lot that occupied 22 E. High St. The store was in the building owned by the Fisher family for 3 generations starting in 1899; many Fisher family members also had businesses in including a shaving parlor, music store, optometrist, jeweler, and car dealership (George’s later venture). George declared bankruptcy on his store in 1913. The building was built when the city was settled in the 1700’s. It burned down in 1892 in the St. Valentine’s Fire. Rebuilt in 1897. Building is still there as of 2024 as cute shops and named Fishers Corner.
